The GABALTA Board of Directors comprises all Officers, elected Director(s), and the Board Advisor. It is responsible for administering the organization's affairs, including supervision of GABALTA's finances and approval of expenditures. Each elected GABALTA official serves a term of one year, with annual elections for the upcoming year taking place no later than early December. Five (5) members of the Board of Directors constitute a quorum for the transaction of all business coming before the GABALTA Board. GABALTA Board members do not receive compensation for their services and hold a minimum of four (4) meetings a year. All active GABALTA members are permitted to attend GABALTA Board meetings.
Duties of Officers and Directors
President
The President presides at all regular and special meetings and serves as the spokesperson for GABALTA to the public. The President is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors in a non-voting capacity, except in the event of a tie amongst the members of the GABALTA Board of Directors. They are an "ex officio" member of all committees and sign contracts binding the organization unless the Board has delegated that authority.
Northern Appalachia Vice-President (NY, PA, & Canada)
The Northern Appalachia Vice-President is a member of the Board of Directors and is responsible for coordinating the program location and meal selection for regular membership meetings and any special meetings, which may be held in NY, PA, Canada, or another state in the northern or easterly part of the Appalachian Basin. They are a Co-Chairperson of the Program Committee, and they are responsible for all correspondence with speakers for seminars or regular meetings such as confirmation letters, letters of appreciation, and obtaining biographical information.
Southern Appalachia Vice-President (OH, WV, KY, & VA)
The Southern Appalachia Vice-President is a member of the Board of Directors and holds the same responsibilities as the Northern Appalachia Vice-President.
Corresponding Secretary
The Corresponding Secretary is a member of the Board of Directors and handles the general communications between the Board of Directors and the membership at large. They are also responsible for issuing notices of all membership meetings.
Recording Secretary
The Recording Secretary is a member of the Board of Directors and keeps a true and accurate record and minutes of all meetings of the Board of Directors and any business that may be conducted as regular and special membership meetings. They obtain the membership records from the Membership Committee Chairperson and maintain said records. The Recording Secretary also serves as the Chairperson of the Election Committee.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is a member of the Board of Directors and collects all dues and assessments from all members of the organization, maintaining an accurate record thereof. They are responsible for paying all expenses of GABALTA, preparing annual financial statements, and keeping all filings current to ensure the Association stays in good standing.
Director(s)
The Director(s) administers the affairs of the organization, serves as a chairperson(s) of a committee as necessary, and is a member of the Board of Directors.
Board Advisor
The Board Advisor is the immediate past President and also a member of the Board of Directors.
NALTA Liaison (Appointed position - not elected)
The NALTA Liaison attends NALTA meetings as a representative of the GABALTA membership. They handle the general communications between the local and national organizations and is elected by the NALTA membership as a Director on the NALTA Board of Directors, as appointed by the GABALTA Board of Directors. The Liaison is responsible for submitting GABALTA Chapter updates for the NALTA News publication. The NALTA Liaison also serves as a chairperson of a committee as necessary and is a voting member of GABALTA's Board of Directors.
CPLTA Liaison (Appointed position - not elected)
The CPLTA Liaison is responsible for attending NALTA's annual certification committee meeting to obtain updates or changes to the certification program, CPLTA manual, and study guides, and to stay informed of any CPLTA news for the upcoming year that may need to be conveyed to GABALTA members. Additionally, the CPLTA Liaison is responsible for organizing a two (2) day CPLTA Review & Exam annually, or on an as-needed basis, maintaining a complete list of approved CPLTA instructors, scheduling CPLTA exams outside of the annual review and exam, as well as being the GABALTA point of contact for CPLTA questions.
